A full-service small animal hospital on Thompson Road. Seven exam rooms, an in-house laboratory and imaging suite, a boarding wing with eight hand-painted suites, and a grooming salon, all under one roof.

Two years in, G. Tucker Robinson joined him. For more than thirty years the two of them ran a mixed practice, taking turns on nights and weekends between them. Three associate veterinarians who trained here went on to open their own clinics in Needville, El Campo and Katy. Dr. Sharon Moore came in as a partner in 1998, became president in 2007, and led the design and build of the clinic we work in now.
Leslie Walenta started at the front desk as a co-op student in September 1981. She is still here, and she is the office manager. That is the part of a practice a website cannot really show you, so we will just say it plainly: the people who answer the phone have known some of these animals their whole lives.
A walk through the building
Dr. Moore spent two years designing this place around the way a visit actually goes. Scroll through it the way you would walk it.
The front
Ten thousand square feet of limestone and stucco under a green metal roof, with an octagonal tower on the front facade. Dr. Moore and her husband Michael gathered the 19th century Texas regional detailing; veterinary architect Ralph A. Thibodeau drew the plans. Ground was broken on the 45th anniversary in June 2009 and the doors opened in May 2010.
The courtyard
The lobby is a two storey courtyard with palm trees and a fountain in the middle of it. The ceiling is a sky mural, hand painted by Richmond artist Robin Schwenke. It is the room everything else opens off, which is why we put a fountain in it rather than a row of chairs against a wall.
Exam
Digital X-ray and ultrasound are networked to a touch-screen monitor in every one of them. You do not get walked to a light box down the corridor. The image comes up on the wall of the room you are already sitting in, while your pet is still on the table.
Wellness
Complete physical exam, annual vaccinations, a fecal test for internal parasites, a heartworm test. That is the Healthy Pet Wellness Program for anything under ten. Over ten it gains a senior blood panel and a urinalysis every other year, because that is when the numbers start telling you things the exam cannot.
Surgery
The surgery suite has separate induction and pack-prep areas, so the room a procedure happens in is not the room it is prepared in. ECG, blood pressure and oxygen are monitored throughout. Minor work gets bundled under the same anaesthesia, so a pet goes under once and comes back with the dentistry, the ear cleaning, the nails and the microchip all done.
Treatment
Treatment has three tables. Dentistry has a room of its own. There is an ICU area with an oxygen therapy unit and IV pumps for pets coming out of surgery, and an isolation ward so anything contagious is nowhere near anything that is not.
Boarding
Eight luxury suites, each one themed and painted by hand: Under the Sea has a clamshell bed, the Royal Suite has a chandelier and a view of a castle, Barn Friends has a John Deere bed. Every suite has a webcam, a window onto the dog park and cable television, and there is an indoor playroom next door.

Every year
The Healthy Pet Wellness Program covers a yearly complete physical exam, annual vaccinations, a fecal test for internal parasites and a heartworm test. Puppies run a four visit schedule from six weeks, kittens a three visit schedule from eight. After ten years old we add a senior blood panel and a urinalysis.

Sick and injured pets are seen by appointment or by drop-off. Urgent daytime cases go ahead of the booked schedule for a $65.00 charge. Pets that need to stay have an ICU area with an oxygen therapy unit and IV pumps. After hours we refer to Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists on (281) 491-7800.

Cleaning, polishing, extractions and minor oral surgery in a room built for it. Soft tissue surgery covers spay, neuter, declaw, tumour removal and umbilical hernia repair; orthopedic work includes cruciate ligament repair. Pre-anaesthetic blood work and an IV catheter are recommended for every procedure, with ECG, blood pressure and oxygen monitored throughout.
Dentistry and surgeryIn house
Heartworm tests, fecal tests, wellness baseline blood work and urinalysis are run here rather than sent away. Digital radiography and ultrasound are networked to touch-screen monitors in every exam room, so the picture comes up in the room you are already sitting in.
DiagnosticsKennels and runs
Canine kennel boarding is $24.00 small, $26.00 medium and $28.00 large, with runs at $30.00 at any weight. Cat cottage suites are $19.00 and two-storey luxury condos are $24.00. Every pet gets a free brief physical exam by a veterinary assistant on admission, and a go-home bath can be booked for departure day.

Every veterinarian at Rose-Rich is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and all of them are USDA APHIS certified to issue international health certificates. Four of the seven are Texas A&M graduates. Two of them worked here before they were veterinarians.
